SCIENCE, and I want to be a scientist!!!

The researchers from the Institute for Theoretical Physics IFT UAM-CSIC, Juan García-Bellido, Claudia García, Javier Quilis, and Angel Uranga, have contributed with the articles published in the outreach book entitled "SCIENCE, and I want to be a scientist!!!".

The Severo Ochoa Centres and Maria de Maeztu Units Alliance (SOMMa) aims at promoting Spanish science of excellence, and safeguarding its competitiveness

The Severo Ochoa Centres and Maria de Maeztu Units Alliance (SOMMa) gathers research centres and units that received the Spanish Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu excellence awards respectively.

At the IFT we are in great sorrow for the passing away of Prof. Stephen Hawking from Cambridge University

An inmense human figure in Science and Society, who definitely shaped our view of Gravity, Quantum Mechanichs and Black Holes. Our thoughts are with his family, colleagues and friends.

One of his main discoveries, the Hawking radiation, is explained in this outreach video by Esperanza López:

Upcoming Events

May 21, 2018 to June 1, 2018
9:00am to 7:00pm
We will discuss recent progress in Lattice Quantum Field Theory, focussing on the topics that are likely to dominate the field in the next few years, and the challenges it faces.
May 22, 2018
11:30am to 1:00pm
The multiscale entanglement renormalization ansatz (MERA) is a tensor network that can efficiently approximate ground states of critical spin chains --that is, lattice versions of 1+1 CFTs.
May 24, 2018
12:00pm to 1:15pm
Quantum systems, such as lattices of quantum spins, are very hard to study because the associated many-body Hilbert space is simply huge: its dimension grows exponentially with the size of the lattice
May 25, 2018
11:30am to 12:30pm
An informal meeting where all the seniors and students are invited to discuss about phenomenology.

11:30am to 12:30pm
An informal meeting where all the seniors and students are invited to discuss about phenomenology.
June 1, 2018
3:00pm to 4:00pm
The role of the exact solutions in gravitational theories is impossible to overestimate. But the intrinsically
