Our everyday experience tells us that we live in four dimensions: three spatial and one temporal. However, string theory predicts the existence of ten dimensions, six of which are compactified, making them impossible for us to experience. In this video, Gonzalo Fernández Casas, a predoctoral researcher at IFT, explains the proposal of physicists Robert Brandenberger and Cumrun Vafa—a mechanism that could explain why the dimensions we experience expanded in the early universe.
