Abstract:

Relativistic hydrodynamics is an effective field theory capturing the infrared behavior of interacting QFTs near thermal equilibrium. Besides symmetries, any theory of relativistic hydrodynamics is specified by an infinite set of coupling constants, known as transport coefficients. In this talk, I will explain how microcausality gives rise to the hydrohedron, a universal convex geometry in the space of transport coefficients that contains all consistent theories of relativistic hydrodynamics. Based on 2212.07434 and 2305.07703.
